David Jones, artist and poet (1895-1974) begins his PREFACE TO THE ANATHEMATA :

'I have made a heap of all that I could find.' (1) So wrote Nennius, or whoever composed the introductory matter to Historia Brittonum. He speaks of an 'inward wound' which was caused by the fear that certain things dear to him 'should be like smoke dissipated'. Further, he says, 'not trusting my own learning, which is none at all, but partly from writings and monuments of the ancient inhabitants of Britain, partly from the annals of the Romans and the chronicles of the sacred fathers, Isidore, Hieronymous, Prosper, Eusebius and from the histories of the Scots and Saxons although our enemies . . . I have lispingly put together this . . . about past transactions, that [this material] might not be trodden under foot'. (2)

(1) The actual words are coacervavi omne quod inveni, and occur in Prologue 2 to the Historia.
(2) Quoted from the translation of Prologue 1. See The Works of Gildas and Nennius, J.A.Giles, London 1841.

"There is no word for 'coalophobia' officially, but that is the
malady that afflicts those opposite (The Opposition). It is that
malady that is affecting the jobs in the towns and the industries
and, indeed, in this country because of the pathological,
ideological opposition to coal being an important part of our
sustainable and more certain energy future."
      - Scott Morrison, Treasurer

Mr MORRISON: "It is coal. It was dug up by men and women who work and live in the electorates of those who sit opposite—from the Hunter Valley, as the member for Hunter would know.
Treasurer Morrison continues his sermon as the COALition faithful pass the sacramental matter from one to the next. Along the Ministers of the front bench, then to those in the ranks behind.
Minister for Environment and Energy Josh Frydenberg
formerly dubbed 'Mr Coal'
was last year upgraded to 'Minister for Coal'

Mr MORRISON (continues) : "It is coal that has ensured for over 100 years that Australia has enjoyed an energy-competitive advantage that has delivered prosperity to Australian businesses and has ensured that Australian industry has been able to remain competitive in a global market.

Those opposite have an ideological, pathological fear of coal. There is no word for 'coalophobia' officially, but that is the malady that afflicts those opposite.

It is that malady that is affecting the jobs in the towns and the industries and, indeed, in this country because of the pathological, ideological opposition to coal being an important part of our sustainable and more certain energy future.

Affordable energy is what Australian businesses need to remain competit-ive. They cannot fizzle out in the dark as those opposite would have them do...
