David Jones, artist and poet (1895-1974) begins his PREFACE TO THE ANATHEMATA :

'I have made a heap of all that I could find.' (1) So wrote Nennius, or whoever composed the introductory matter to Historia Brittonum. He speaks of an 'inward wound' which was caused by the fear that certain things dear to him 'should be like smoke dissipated'. Further, he says, 'not trusting my own learning, which is none at all, but partly from writings and monuments of the ancient inhabitants of Britain, partly from the annals of the Romans and the chronicles of the sacred fathers, Isidore, Hieronymous, Prosper, Eusebius and from the histories of the Scots and Saxons although our enemies . . . I have lispingly put together this . . . about past transactions, that [this material] might not be trodden under foot'. (2)

(1) The actual words are coacervavi omne quod inveni, and occur in Prologue 2 to the Historia.
(2) Quoted from the translation of Prologue 1. See The Works of Gildas and Nennius, J.A.Giles, London 1841.

We are as shadows...

Watching the parade-to-execution of a Prime Minister, on TV an hour ago, we screen-snapped this one image of PM Malcolm Turnbull (centre) and his ally Arthur Sinidinos (left) as they passed by an artwork of John Coburn, all lit by camera flashes.

As he approaches the Liberal Party Meeting Room for the leadership vote, the Prime Minister knows he will be overthrown by former PM Tony Abbott's revolt of reactionary avengers.

Arthur Sinidinos, who was instrumental in Turnbull's ascendency over Abbott three years ago, is seriously ill with cancer.

The people's Parliament House Art Collection is very poorly represented online. We needed to search elsewhere to confirm details of the John Coburn artwork : appropriate to this Theatre of the Actors of Regard procession of shadows...
its title is Death and transfiguration.

And the vote, the result? The Liberal Party has today elected this person, Scott Morrison, as Australia's next Prime Minister, leader of the Government COALition.

Mark of the Year!

On a similar theme to the previous post, here's
third man up from nowhere.

We imagine Yves Klein being somehow involved :
all of a sudden reappearing, coming off the bench
all these years later to take a screamer from nowhere.

Mark of the Year!

Tethers of TAR

The smart little monk’s reputation reached the ears of Shogun Yoshimitsu (1358-1408), and Ikkyū was summoned to the castle for a meeting.

"I’ve heard that you are quite bright,” the shogun said to Ikky
ū. "Do you think you can catch a tiger?"

"Yes, my lord, I believe I can,” Ikky
ū replied with great confidence. "Here is a rope. Catch that one," the shogun challenged, pointing to a tiger painted on a large screen in the room.

Without hesitation, Ikky
ū placed himself in front of the screen, readied the rope, and shouted, "Now, my lord, please drive the tiger out!”

Proverbs of TAR : to act is to sin

Jack Donaghy (Vice President of East Coast Television and Microwave Oven Programming For General Electric) : Jonathan, who is this?
Jonathan (Jack's secretary) : Oh,it's Bucky Bright, sir. He was a major tv star in the '40s,'50s and the fall of 1972, and he's your Republican celebrity for the McCain dinner.
Jack : Uh-huh,good to see you.
What happened to Bruce Willis?
Jonathan : He insists on singing.
Jack : Jim Belushi?
Jonathan : He insists on singing.
Jack : Good god. When did the party become so boring? The Democrats have all the good celebrities.
Kenneth Parcell (NBC page) : Mr.Donaghy, this was delivered to -- son of a married couple, Bucky Bright!
Jack : You know who this is?
Kenneth : Who doesn't?
Jack : Most people.
But let me ask you a question, Kenneth.
If Mr. Bright here told you to vote Republican, would you do it?
Kenneth : Oh,no,sir, I don't vote Republican or Democrat. Choosing is a sin, so I always just write-in the Lord's Name.
Jack D : That's Republican - we count those.
