David Jones, artist and poet (1895-1974) begins his PREFACE TO THE ANATHEMATA :
'I have made a heap of all that I could find.' (1) So wrote Nennius, or whoever composed the introductory matter to Historia Brittonum. He speaks of an 'inward wound' which was caused by the fear that certain things dear to him 'should be like smoke dissipated'. Further, he says, 'not trusting my own learning, which is none at all, but partly from writings and monuments of the ancient inhabitants of Britain, partly from the annals of the Romans and the chronicles of the sacred fathers, Isidore, Hieronymous, Prosper, Eusebius and from the histories of the Scots and Saxons although our enemies . . . I have lispingly put together this . . . about past transactions, that [this material] might not be trodden under foot'. (2)
(1) The actual words are coacervavi omne quod inveni, and occur in Prologue 2 to the Historia.
(2) Quoted from the translation of Prologue 1. See The Works of Gildas and Nennius, J.A.Giles, London 1841.

In Other Words podcast #57 : Then and Now : Paula Cooper Gallery
PODCAST EPISODE #57Then and Now: Paula Cooper GalleryApr 2019 (40 minutes)Episode Description : Paula Cooper Gallery has survived and thrived in a mercurial art world for more than five decades.
On today’s show, the legendary dealer talks about the history and future of her gallery together with Steven Henry, who has been the gallery director for more than two decades, Allan Schwartzman, co-founder of Art Agency, Partners, and host Charlotte Burns.
Charlotte Burns: As we round out, I wanted to ask the three of you: from your combined experiences over the years, are there other words of wisdom that you would give either to collectors or artists who are listening to the show?
Paula Cooper: Look. Look more. Just look. And be patient and look.
Steven Henry: Trust your eye and —
Paula Cooper: And relax! Jesus, people get very uptight sometimes and nervous like it’s a test or something.

re. object matter
Theatre of the Actors of Regard
noun.
the matter that is the object of an action or study,
the matter dealt with or treated.
"subject matter" is the more commonly used term.
the matter that is the object of an action or study,

"subject matter" is the more commonly used term.
By binary convention, we usually write
the subject regards the object
Similarly, we might further write
the subject matter regards the object matter
However, if we write
the subject matter regards the subject matter
that suggests a very different view :
meta-matter
meta-
The third sense, "higher than, transcending, overarching, dealing with the most fundamental matters of," is due to misinterpretation of metaphysics (q.v.) as "science of that which transcends the physical." This has led to a prodigious erroneous extension in modern usage, with meta- affixed to the names of other sciences and disciplines, especially in the academic jargon of literary criticism: Metalanguage (1936) "a language which supplies terms for the analysis of an 'object' language;" metalinguistics (by 1949); metahistory (1957), metacommunication, etc. Expert, texpert choking smokersDon't you think the joker laughs at you(ho ho ho, hee hee hee, hah hah hah)See how they smile like pigs in a sty,see how they snideI'm crying

matter (n.)
c.1200, materie, "the subject of a mental act or a course of thought, speech, or expression," from Anglo-French matere, Old French matere "subject, theme, topic; substance, content; character, education" (12c., Modern French matière) and directly from Latin materia "substance from which something is made," also "hard inner wood of a tree." According to de Vaan and Watkins, this is from mater "origin, source, mother" (see mother). The sense developed and expanded in Latin in philosophy by influence of Greek hylē (see hylo-) "wood, firewood," in a general sense "material," used by Aristotle for "matter" in the philosophical sense.
I am he as you are he as you are meand we are all together- 'I Am The Walrus', John Lennon/The Beatles
matter derives from mater, mother, origin
as does material
matrix, too, to which all matter returns :

Last night, across no known bridge, we watched an online performance of Samuel Beckett's 'Endgame'. This bell-wringing extract :
Quiet, quiet, you're keeping me awake.
(Pause.)
Talk softer.
(Pause.)
If I could sleep I might make love. I'd go into the woods. My eyes would see... the sky, the earth. I'd run, run, they wouldn't catch me.
(Pause.)
Nature!
(Pause.)
There's something dripping in my head.
(Pause.)
A heart, a heart in my head.
(Pause.)
NAGG:
Do you hear him? A heart in his head!
(He chuckles cautiously.)
NELL:
One mustn't laugh at those things, Nagg. Why must you always laugh at them?
NAGG:
Not so loud!
NELL (without lowering her voice):
Nothing is funnier than unhappiness, I grant you that. But—
NAGG (shocked):
Oh!
NELL: Yes, yes, it's the most comical thing in the world. And we laugh, we laugh, with a will, in the beginning. But it's always the same thing. Yes, it's like the funny story we have heard too often, we still find it funny, but we don't laugh any more.
(Pause.)
Have you anything else to say to me?
NAGG:
No.
NELL:
Are you quite sure?
(Pause.)
Then I'll leave you.
Everything is everything, sang Lauryn Hill.
We'll touch that dream
But things come slow or not at all
And the ones on top, won't make it stop
So convinced that they might fall
Let's love ourselves and we can't fail
To make a better situation
Tomorrow, our seeds will grow
All we need is dedication
Let me tell ya that
Everything is everything
Everything is everything
After winter, must come spring
Everything is everything
Everything is everything
What is meant to be, will be
After winter, must come spring
Change, it comes eventually

Laughing Songs of TAR ( Olivier Messiaen )
DANCE OF BÉBÉ PILULE (FOR MY LITTLE PASCAL)
words and music by Olivier Messiaen
Pilule, come let’s dance.
Malonlanlaine, ma.
Strands of sunshine.
Malonlanlaine, ma.
It’s the alphabet of laughter
at your mother’s fingertips.
Her perpetual yes
was a tranquil lake.
Malonlanlaine, ma, ma.
Gentleness of staircases,
surprise at the turnings of doors.
All the light birds
take flight from your hands.
Light birds, pebbles,
refrains, light cream.
Into blue fish,
into blue moons,
halos of earth and water,
a single lung in a single reed.
Io, malonlaine, ma.
The disarmed eye,
an angel on the head,
your little nose raised
towards the blue which swallows itself,
hemming the glass horizons
with gilded cries, you offered
your heart so pure.
To sing, to sing, ah! to sing,
gleaner of stars, braids of life,
could you sing
more delightfully?
The wind on your ears,
Malonlanlaine, ma.
Plays leap-frog,
Malonlanlaine, ma.
and your mother’s
watchful eye and presence
Shedding one hour
around my smile.
Malonlanlaine, ma.
lo! ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, io, io!

Label-Crazed Triple-Gourd Void Vase Regard

Above, 19th century celadon crackle glazed porcelain gourd vase of good scale. This vase employs a delightfully pale shade of celadon glaze. The cracquelle surface is especially pleasing as it exists in two shades: jet black lines over much fainter and lighter crazing.

Not the Wind, Not the Flag
The Gateless Gate #29
Not the Wind, Not the Flag

Two monks were arguing about a flag.
One said:
'The flag is moving.'
The other said:
The other said:
'The wind is moving.'
The sixth patriarch happened to be passing by.
He told them:
'Not the wind, not the flag; mind is moving.'
Mumon's comment : The sixth patriarch said: "The wind is not moving, the flag is not moving. Mind is moving." What did he mean? If you understand this intimately, you will see the two monks there trying to buy iron and gaining gold. The sixth patriarch could not bear to see those two dull heads, so he made such a bargain.
Wind, flag, mind moves,
The same understanding.
When the mouth opens
All are wrong.
Wind, flag, mind moves,
The same understanding.
When the mouth opens
All are wrong.
