David Jones, artist and poet (1895-1974) begins his PREFACE TO THE ANATHEMATA :

'I have made a heap of all that I could find.' (1) So wrote Nennius, or whoever composed the introductory matter to Historia Brittonum. He speaks of an 'inward wound' which was caused by the fear that certain things dear to him 'should be like smoke dissipated'. Further, he says, 'not trusting my own learning, which is none at all, but partly from writings and monuments of the ancient inhabitants of Britain, partly from the annals of the Romans and the chronicles of the sacred fathers, Isidore, Hieronymous, Prosper, Eusebius and from the histories of the Scots and Saxons although our enemies . . . I have lispingly put together this . . . about past transactions, that [this material] might not be trodden under foot'. (2)

(1) The actual words are coacervavi omne quod inveni, and occur in Prologue 2 to the Historia.
(2) Quoted from the translation of Prologue 1. See The Works of Gildas and Nennius, J.A.Giles, London 1841.

"You Must Have Been a Beautiful Baby"
words by Johnny Mercer
version below by Bobby Darin

Oh … you know, you know, you know, you know …

You must a been a beautiful baby
You must a been a beautiful child
When you were only startin'
To go to kindergarten
I bet you drove those other childs wild!

Oh yeah … oh yeah … oh yeah …
An' when it came to winnin' blue ribbons
Well ... I bet you taught the other kids how
Well, I can see the judge's eyes
As they handed you the prize
I bet you took the cutest bow!

Yeah! You must a been a beautiful baby
'cause baby won't you look at you now

Oh yeah ... oh yeah ... oh yeah ...

You must a have been a beautiful baby
You must a have been a beautiful child
When you were only startin'

To go to kindergarten
I know you drove the other childs wild
An' I wasn't even there

An' when you came to winnin' blue ribbons
Hey … I know you taught those other kids how
Well, I can see the judge's eyes
As they handed you the prize
I know you made the cutest bow!

Yeah! You must a been a beautiful baby
‘cause baby won't you look at you now
Oh, I mean … I mean … oh, beautiful …
Oh, beautiful ...
Oh, beautiful ...

Oh, beautiful ...
Oh, beautiful ...
Oh, beautiful ...

Aah, I know you're beautiful … too beautiful for words ...

You could hear their brushes brushing
And this is what they had to say

Living Standard

The Australia Council for the Arts has released
new research which shows the average income of a practising professional artist in Australia declined by about 4 per cent between 2008 and 2015.

Theatre of the Accountants of Regard
How much money do artists make?

•   In 2014-15 Australian artists earned a gross income of $48,400 on average — about 4 per cent less than when the survey was last conducted in 2007-08

•   But they tended to generate their income from a variety of sources

•   On average they made about $18,800 from their creative work, $13,900 from art-related work (usually teaching), and $15,700 from a non-arts-related job

•   A third of the artists surveyed said they were happy with that balance, while the rest wanted to spend more time creating

•   All types of artists face challenges meeting their minimum income requirements, but visual artists earn amongst the lowest incomes of any artists, despite being one of the most highly educated groups in the workforce.

The humours | of TAR

How can comedy be used to reveal more serious concerns about race, gender and politics?

- MUMA promo headline question

Theatre of the Actors of Regard
Rather than offering a compendium of funny art,
The humours looks at some of the underlying strategies – physical movement, dialogue, exaggerations of scale and absurdity – that artists work with when using humour as a tool for provoking thought.

Fashions on The Field

Today is Oaks Day

The Kennedy Oaks, registered as the VRC Oaks, is a Victoria Racing Club (VRC) Group 1 Thoroughbred horse race for three-year-old fillies, run under set weights conditions, over 2,500 metres at Flemington Racecourse, Melbourne, Australia on the third day of the VRC Spring Carnival, the Thursday after the Melbourne Cup in early November. Total prize money for the race is A$1,000,000

Oaks Day is Blokes Day

Popularly known as Ladies Day or just Oaks Day (but in recent times also colloquially called Blokes Day, Kennedy Oaks Day has been an extraordinary phenomenon of racing. Despite being held on a work day (Melbourne Cup Day is the only public holiday during the racing carnival), Oaks Day boasts the fastest growing crowd records of any day in the Carnival, with over 70,000 punters attending the track each year. While the main draw card of the race day are the stars of the track, the other popular event on Crown Oaks Day is the annual "Fashions on the Field" celebrations. Introduced by the Victoria Racing Club in 1962 in an effort to woo more women to the track, Ladies day and the Fashions on the Field concept has grown considerably with each year and is now adopted at racetracks and smaller events all over the world.  - Wikipedia

Sign Field

We've been watching old episodes of Sign Field.

Raise The Standard was directed by 前川五嶺 [1805-1876] and features Daikokuten as the standard bearer. A great favourite.

collection : FIAPCE
Carry On Luggage has a similar theme. TAR-TV describes this episode as, 'The year before Flying High! - First Flight of an idio with an ideo'.

Theatre of the Aviators of Regard (-1979-)
Both these episodes are revisited in the mayhem of
Parade Day.
