David Jones, artist and poet (1895-1974) begins his PREFACE TO THE ANATHEMATA :

'I have made a heap of all that I could find.' (1) So wrote Nennius, or whoever composed the introductory matter to Historia Brittonum. He speaks of an 'inward wound' which was caused by the fear that certain things dear to him 'should be like smoke dissipated'. Further, he says, 'not trusting my own learning, which is none at all, but partly from writings and monuments of the ancient inhabitants of Britain, partly from the annals of the Romans and the chronicles of the sacred fathers, Isidore, Hieronymous, Prosper, Eusebius and from the histories of the Scots and Saxons although our enemies . . . I have lispingly put together this . . . about past transactions, that [this material] might not be trodden under foot'. (2)

How to tell if you are/not a clairvoyant/dog/ curator regarding a crystal ball/picture/1000 words/more/less

‘A picture tells a thousand words.’ This adage is the inspiration for an innovative new exhibition, in which the public becomes the curator.

A Thousand Words presents 100 of the most compelling photographic images from the rich collections of Sydney Living Museums and the State Archives and Records Authority of NSW, created between the 1880s and the 1980s.

A Thousand Words adopts a philosophy that everyone can interpret history through the lens of their background, experiences, values and aspirations. Unlike a standard exhibition, the images are presented without traditional curatorial interpretation. Instead, the public have been invited to contribute responses – whether emotive, nostalgic or imaginative – and this ‘crowdsourced’ material translated into the exhibition design. New creative works have also been commissioned from established and emerging writers and artists, each responding to an image from the exhibition.

A Thousand Words is also available as an online exhibition.

One : a retelling by educationist Sir Ken Robinson on the TED Hour, on ABC.RN last night :

I heard a great story recently, I love telling it, of a little girl who was in a drawing lesson, she was 6 and she was at the back, drawing, and the teacher said this little girl hardly paid attention, and in this drawing lesson she did. The teacher was fascinated and she went over to her and she said, “What are you drawing?” and the girl said, “I’m drawing a picture of God.” And the teacher said, “But nobody knows what God looks like.” And the girl said, “They will in a minute.”
   
One : an ABC radio news report this morning, about the results of Pope Francis's Vatican 'Synod On The Family', said that the Pope had failed to get his reforms passed by the gathering of cardinals and bishops. A brief quote from Pope Francis was given and is highlighted in red below with a link to his full statement.
   
And since it is a journey of human beings, with the consolations there were also moments of desolation, of tensions and temptations, of which a few possibilities could be mentioned:

T.G.T.T.


T.G.T.T. by Duke Ellington must surely be both our favorite Title and meta-Title-with-twist : 
Too Good To Title

T.G.T.T. is track 10 on Ellington's Second Sacred Concert album, 1968. Wordless, sung by Alice Babs. An echo of the ineffable, the nameless, the un-namable, perhaps. 
As in NNFA, No Name For Art, for _rt. 
As in NNFG, No Name For God, for G_d, 
YHWH
T.G.T.T.

The final track of Second Sacred Concert is Titled : 'Praise God And Dance'.

Praise ___ and Dance fits well with this chromo
-lithograph (1880-1900) that we've recently had on show in the office here.
        

       
Our staff artist - who was at Festival Hall, Melbourne in January 1970 when Duke Ellington and his all-star orchestra played at that famous barn - has now re-presented the joyful scene above as 'The Piper of Bonzaview with projection-space ideogram dancers'.
