Berlinde de Bruyckere : We Are All Flesh 
opens today at the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, Melbourne.

BERLINDE de Bruyckere's father was a butcher. During her childhood, there in his shop in Ghent, Belgium, she would watch as strong men hauled great slabs of dead animals into the fridges, where they were hung on hooks. The carcasses were butchered into smaller cuts and displayed for the day's trade. The little girl Berlinde, who loved to draw, was arrested by these images.
