David Jones, artist and poet (1895-1974) begins his PREFACE TO THE ANATHEMATA :

'I have made a heap of all that I could find.' (1) So wrote Nennius, or whoever composed the introductory matter to Historia Brittonum. He speaks of an 'inward wound' which was caused by the fear that certain things dear to him 'should be like smoke dissipated'. Further, he says, 'not trusting my own learning, which is none at all, but partly from writings and monuments of the ancient inhabitants of Britain, partly from the annals of the Romans and the chronicles of the sacred fathers, Isidore, Hieronymous, Prosper, Eusebius and from the histories of the Scots and Saxons although our enemies . . . I have lispingly put together this . . . about past transactions, that [this material] might not be trodden under foot'. (2)

(1) The actual words are coacervavi omne quod inveni, and occur in Prologue 2 to the Historia.
(2) Quoted from the translation of Prologue 1. See The Works of Gildas and Nennius, J.A.Giles, London 1841.

In today's paper, the following article :

Vaughan back to uni
Gina McColl / The Age
18 April 2012

THE outgoing director of the National Gallery of Victoria, Gerard Vaughan, will remain in Melbourne and return to academia when he leaves his post in July after 13 years at the gallery.

Yesterday, the University of Melbourne announced Vaughan had been appointed the Gerry Higgins professorial fellow in art history. The new three-year position is funded by a donation from Allan Myers, eminent lawyer, philanthropist and president of the NGV's Council of Trustees.

Vaughan, who studied and taught art history at the university before completing his doctorate at Oxford University, said he was looking forward to returning to teaching and research.

''In particular, I will be undertaking a major project to research and document the history of private art collecting, taste and patronage in Australia, and its dovetail with institutional collecting,'' he said.

He would also contribute to the university's new Australian Institute of Art History, institute head Jaynie Anderson said. This would include ''advancement activities'' - helping to raise funds, at which he has been notably successful during his gallery tenure.

Here's something similar, a tableau from the later 1800s. Theatre of the Actors of Regard before a set of Golden Guillotine genre painthings, all centred on a cloudy skyscape mind with over-text. (Reckoned to be an early launch site for Theatre du Vide and Yves Kline's later Leap into the Void.)

NGV Reveals Latest Acquisition

.
Yesterday

senior actors

at the National Galley of Victoria

used a classic LOGOS-centric, Golden Guillotined painthing

Madonna and Child with the Infant Saint John the Baptist

by Correggio

as mise en scène

to the revealing of

the NGV's latest, 15oth anniversary acquisition

Black Veil ] Theatre of the Actors of Regard [

at a of cost of $AUD5.2 million.

Correggio covered by Black Veil_Theatre of the Actors of Regard_tableau vivant _NGV sequence_sRGB_400

bLOGOS/HA HA applauds this bold addition to the NGV collection.

Yesterday's presentation by NGV director Gerard Vaughan and NGV trustee Andrew Sisson was wholly inspired.

Few will question the appropriateness of this acquisition
Black Veil ] Theatre of the Actors of Regard [
but we wonder how many of yesterday's media assembly fully gauged the wit and wisdom of that presentation.

Some have since published in their articles and reports certain facts about the background artwork - the artist's stage name (Correggio), his given name (Antonio Allegri), the better known names of selected peers (Raphael, Leonardo, Michelangelo), the authenticity (tick), price, size, aesthetics, provenance and so on - but, apart from their various attempts to render the title of that picture, we have read no analysis as to why this object with this scene was centre+stage in yesterday's tableau. Why was this object this scene the one to receive the Black Veil?

That is where the cleverness lies. Rather than merely holding up, or down, or pointing to, or in some other way indicating a ready set stand-alone display of
Black Veil ] Theatre of the Actors of Regard [
as might well have been done
yesterday's presentation reveled in layers and levels.

First (as described in a 'live report' on ABC radio) the media theorin were led through a titillation of basement corridors into a room where they beheld against a black background an exemplar art historical object set within a Golden Guillotine, this all held aloft (see: Triumph of Christianity over Paganism, by Tommaso Siciliano, 1585) on an artist-style easel pedestal.

Act one :
Madonna and Child with the Infant Saint John the Baptist
:
within the Four Right Angles of that painthing's Golden Guillotine is a tableau of three significant figures. At the centre is the baby Jesus. Later he will be known under the stage name The Christ and will be reckoned to be The Logos, The Word made Flesh, Agnus Dei - obviously bLOGOS/HA HA has an interest in this - and we all know he will come to be represented by the Sign of +he Cross, inverted torture frame of the Four Right Angles. In summary, we are presented with a classic, originary [Western, Christian] Phallo-LOGOS-centric opening scene. In the Centre, The One; with supporters of import to either side : mystical earth mother Mary and Media Agent to the Word, John the Baptist.

Act two replicates the form, then releases a killer punch.

Act two, tableau one :
Again the centre position is the most important. The Golden Guillotine, previously seen to frame that within its bounds, now is seen to turn on itself, as it were, and frame that without, in this case its supporters to either side : the Director as Ring Master (Frame Master) Advocate on one side and on the other the Trustee Provider Regardist ("You look at the way things move over time, and this is a great opportunity to buy something using our dollar and get a lot of value for it." - Andrew Sisson).

Act two, tableau two :
Cometh the moment...

<span class=

...cometh the Thing.

Gallery unveils its newest, nearest and dearest
NGV unveils highest priced piece in its history

NGV UNVEILS MAJOR ANNIVERSARY GIFT - NGV Media

Gasps from the theorin, the immediate recognition of the rightness and boldness of this acquisition; then quiet as the implications begin to build

Picture Arrival Ritual

.
The Archibald Prize for Portraiture is to Art in Australia what the Melbourne Cup is to Horse Racing. Something serious for a few,
a bit of fun for the folk.

Every year both events enter their season and we are lead through the stages.

First, the nation is informed that this year's entries are arriving: horses with prospects from Ireland, New Zealand, The Arab Emirates... and Portrait Paintings from "all over Australia".

It's that time of year again. The Archibald Cometh!
"The annual exhibition of Archibald Prize finalists will visit the TarraWarra Museum of Art in the Yarra Valley, its only Victorian appearance and its first pitstop in the state for two years.

Hundreds of entries from around the country are arriving this week at the Art Gallery of New South Wales before the finalists' nomination on April 8 and announcement of the $50,000 winner on April 15. The 40 or so works that make the final cut will be shown at the gallery from April 16 until June 26, before touring TarraWarra in July..."

Same as it ever was, same as it ever was

In war, truth is the first casualty.
Aeschylus (525 - 456 BCE)

A key image and constant reference at bLOGOS/HA HA is Tomasso Laureti Siciliano's 1585 ceiling fresco The Triumph of Christianity over Paganism in The War Room, as we call it, of the Vatican Palace, today the Vatican Museum.

On the four walls that support this crime scene is a representation of The Battle of ++++ in which the God of the Adver+isers offers a franchise opportunity to Constantine : "In this sign, Conquer" (see image below). C signs on the dotted line and the rest, as they say, is History.

The Triumph of ___ over ___ archetype would seem to equally well describe the current struggle between Julian Assange (founder of WikiLeaks) and the States and individuals attempting to silence him. Indeed, to kill him, as some prominent US politicians have publicly advocated. Aeschylus be damned, this is information terrorism!
The founder of the whistleblower website responsible for releasing thousands of secret documents should be treated as an enemy of the US, according to a former Republican Speaker of the House.

Newt Gingrich became the latest conservative to suggest that WikiLeak's Julian Assange deserves to be hunted and executed by calling him an "enemy combatant."

"I approach this very seriously," Gingrich told Fox News' Chris Wallace. "Information warfare is warfare. Julian Assange is engaged in warfare."

"Information terrorism, which leads to people getting killed is terrorism. And Julian Assange is engaged in terrorism," he continued.

. . . .

Townhall's John Hawkins wrote a column last week entitled "5 Reasons The CIA Should Have Already Killed Julian Assange."

Fox News contributor Sarah Palin took to her Facebook page to suggest that Assange deserved the same treatment as terrorists and insurgents.

On the ceiling, the Party of the Four Golden Right Angles, in the name of poor Jesus - aka The Logos; aka The Word made flesh... more than an irony this, a total perversion - have set out from their HQ at Camp Vanishing Point, overthrown the Messenger of the Gods (Hermes, Mercury, WikiLeaks... ) and installed themselves, in their turn upon the pedestal of death, as the Government of God on Earth.

Now, DemocraCorp has been stung. The shadows recoil as the SuperStructure advances upon the messenger.
